Our first outing with the Garmin 65 was in the Ochil Hills in Scotland. It was very misty with low clouds. I created a route on O.S. Maps and downloaded it onto the device. Took a wee while and several efforts to do it. The Topo 1:50000 map was adequate. We followed the route without difficulty and didn't have any problems. Even in mist and clouds the Garmin 65 was great, we would definitely have got lost without it. Very pleased with our purchase and price.
Disappointed that Birdseye Select maps now not available for use. This bought to replace a lost Map 64S. I had previously downloaded Some Birdseye Select Maps for use with the 64S which are on Basecamp but could not transfer them to the Garmin 65. In the meantime I used OS maps on my phone but wanted a waterproof unit with waypoints and proximity alarms. Planning walking routes/tracks using Basecamp without 1:25k maps is not feasible as far as I can tell so I use OS Maps to plan routes and transfer GPX files to the Garmin via Basecamp. Waypoints are set up and transferred to Map65 via Basecamp
A good GPS, at an excellent price for the bundle including the 1:50,000 map package. The GPS works well, and is easy to get to grips with especially if you have previously had a Garmin GPS. Its quick to find the satellites, and the screen is pretty clear. Would recommend.
