I've purchased two pairs of these. The first lasted some years with lots of regular use, but eventually the stitching around the toe box started to fail. On the second pair, the stitching started to fail within a couple of months. Scarpa replaced them, but the replacement pair soon succumbed to the same problem.
Judging from other reviews, this stitching failure is a known problem. Surely Scarpa can find a solution for otherwise good walking shoes.
Despite using the appropriate waterproofing, these shoes do not live up to their purpose walking in wet conditions, a big waste of money.
The positives they are comfortable and have good grip, I can find many other makes that can deliver those features at considerably less money.
If any manufacturer of shop can guarantee that their walking shoes will survive at least 3 months I will pay full price after the 3 months plus give fantastic reviews, I’m only walking my dog on a short grass path twice a day, shouldn’t be to hard to achieve.
As several other people have found, the stitching fails around the toe, at the 'hinging' point. My first pair began to split after a about 10 uses, and the warranty-replacements after 4. Others in my family have had precisely the same failure within less than 6 months' use. I received great service from Scarpa's warranty partners, however - can't fault them!
These are very comfortable and nicely styled shoes, which I had hoped I would be able to use for many years. However after just under 3 years of mostly unadventurous walking, they have started to leak at the toe on one foot. It is frustrating as the source of the leak is invisible, so I can't even attempt a fix. I have had previous shoes at a similar price that have lasted much, much longer, So won't be buying Scarpa again.
I've bought these shoes twice and both times the stitching fails around the toe cap. My right shoes has literally fallen apart, after about 1 year of gentle use weekend walking. Disappointing as I like the look of the shoes. will not buy again. My wife has the women's boot version and had the same stitching failure.
Writing this review after exactly 1 year of wear. Price wise they are £20 less than dec2021. I try to cover around 5k a day wearing these and during 2022 I’ve done 1100miles -/+ of mainly road use. Shoe has been a pleasure to wear, super comfortable, always remains dry and no obvious build defects. My only gripe is the soles have worn out, particularly the heels. This has resulted in loss of grip and less tracksion hence more shoes required. I would recommend these shoes for the occasional walker
Comfortable out of the box, good roomy toe box, but just not durable enough for £135 (Oct ‘21 purchase). Sole worn through on an average of 6000 steps per day, stitching failed as it did for others on the outside edge, widest part of both shoes. Disappointed.
I can see that others have had the same experience as me. Very comy and nice to walk in. I had to get the stitching at the widest part of the shoe on both feet repaired at around 9 months. Through the sole to wet feet at 15 months, whihc must be abt most 1500 miles. Overall, not good value.
I have had two pairs of these and on both the stitching has has split in exactly the same place again (just on the outside of the widest part of the shoe). Although I walk on rough moorland ground, I am only a casual walker so getting a year's wear isn't very impressive.
In both cases, the soles, which are quite soft, were fairly worn by the time the stitching split.
It's a shame because they are comfortable and supportive but I expect more than a year out of a lightly worn shoe that cost £130.
Exactly what I want as a walking shoe
Good value
The shoes are comfortable and versatile. The online service from Blacks was less pleasing, and I will go back to their High Street store next time.
Very comfortable from day one.
But after a year of fairly gentle use the stitching failed, on both boots.
This was where the vertical stitching from laces meets the sole.
I see someone else had same issue.
I have owned these for around 1 year, Initially very impressed however the stitching has burst rendering them useless. Very disappointed in lack of quality from a premium brand at a premium price.
Not for high mileage walkers. Had these for 11 months the sole wore through / cracked and they leaked in.
Up until then they proved very waterproof and reasonably comfortable, no problems with stitching. Look good but unless you just want them for casual use/occasional longer walk I would not buy. Fortunately Black's/ Millers were prepared to exchange /give me a credit note - I took the credit note. I have Scarpa boots that have lasted many years hence purchasing these. Millets advised the soles were a softer material than boots so not for extensive use, however Scarpa don't make this clear.
This my third pair of shoes of this type covering a period of just under six years I have found them very suitable
Good wearing waterproof shoe
Look great and feel really good at first. But very little cushion in the sole. After a relatively short walk your feet really feel sore on the soles. Nice for day to day wear not for walking.
Good design and well made for rugged walking.
Good quality shoe though narrow. You’ll need a size up to wear thick socks - a shame if, like me, you’re a 12.
