The Power of Walking | BBC Countryfile Ramble

2 min read

The outdoors should be open and accessible to everyone; that's something we believe. Unfortunately, not everyone has the privilege or the opportunity to experience one of life’s simplest pleasures.

The BBC Countryfile Ramble sets out to change that by raising money to help disadvantaged children and young people across the U.K.

Now in its 4th year, this nationwide event challenges everyone to get outside and rack up some miles in aid of BBC Children in Need. This year the target is set at an ambitious 18,505 miles between us.

#HatsOn

Once again Blacks are partnering with BBC Children in Need to support this great cause, warming heads and hearts around the country with our official ramble hat.

50% of the sales from each bobble bought will be donated to BBC Children in Need

The season's hottest accessory, this chunky knit bobble is soon to take over trails and social media feeds, with ramblers sharing their best Pudsey impressions using the hashtag #HatsOn.

Walk the Walk

We’ve always been firm believers in the power of a good hike and now, thanks to the BBC Countryfile Ramble, we can do one of our favourite things and help people at the same time.

Last year we tackled Holcombe Hill, Ramsbottom, shaking our buckets at passers-by who stopped to gawp at a group of overly prepared, outdoorsy folk wearing yellow bear hats.

Safe to say it attracted plenty of attention. Plenty of pennies too. All of which contributed to our final figure of over £100,000 raised.

A Big Target to Beat

This year we’re going one better, pitting our stores and head office against one another in a friendly competition to find out who can rack up the most miles and money.

Blacks sponsored rambles will be happening around the country. Make sure to check with your local store to find out when they will be rambling near you.

Getting Ramble Ready

We encourage everyone to stretch their legs and themselves in aid of this great cause. But, without sounding like captain safety, never underestimate the mountain.

To give yourself the best chance of reaching your goal make sure to check the weather before you head out and plan your kit according to your walk, the conditions, and terrain.

We recommend at least the following:

Let's Get Ready to Ramble

Countryfile rambles will be taking place across the country throughout the autumn. With some extra special ones lead by Countryfile presenters on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October.

But whether you hike, skip or jump a mile or ten, make sure to start a fundraising page. Grab your friends and start walking towards the goal of a fairer, happier society.
