Berghaus looks set to rock the waterproof garment market with the launch of their new premium fabric, Hydroshell™.
50 years’ experience in constructing waterproof garments has led the brand to create its own in-house waterproof fabric which they hope will bridge the gap between traditional waterproofs and premium offerings. We take a look at the benefits of this brand new fabric now available in our brand new Spring/Summer 2015 range.
So what is Hydroshell™?
In its simplest form, Hydroshell™ is Berghaus’ own waterproof and breathable technology which has been developed to keep the wearer ‘drier for longer’. The ultra-light 2.5 layer construction of this coated fabric ensures that it is 100% waterproof yet can quickly transfer any perspiration generated when working hard through the fabric to enhance overall comfort.

Hydroshell™ provides a whole new level of comfort not seen before in a lightweight, waterproof layer. Berghaus has constructed an entire range around this new fabric innovation which targets a wide variety of outdoor enthusiasts from ultra-light runners and mountain adventurers to everyday trekkers and walkers.
Hydroshell™ is available in three distinct forms:
Hydroshell™ Elite
• Developed for hiking, trekking and multi-sport activities
• Advanced waterproof technology with storm level protection to keep you dry even in the worst conditions
• Comfort touch technology provides enhanced next-to-skin comfort
• Waterproof rating: 15,000mm
• Breathability: 20,000g/m2/24hrs
Hydroshell™ Elite Pro
• Developed for mountaineering and climbing
• Advanced waterproof technology with storm level protection and a greater concentration on durability and lightness
• Waterproof rating: 20,000mm
• Breathability: 20,000g/m2/24hrs
Hydroshell™ Hyper
• Developed for running, biking and other high intensity activities
• Advanced waterproof technology with storm level protection and an ultra-light, packable design
• Waterproof rating: 15,000mm
• Breathability: 10,000g/m2/24hrs
Sustainability
Sustainability has been a key concentration for Berghaus during the development of Hydroshell™. The durable water repellency and nylon face of the fabric means that it will last longer and need less reproofing, reducing the impact of our planet’s resources through water consumption.
In our new season range we are stocking two jacket's from Berghaus which feature this brand new innovation. Although we've not had a chance to properly try out their waterproofing performance of the Light Trek and Light Hike yet, we have been impressed by just how light they are. You'll need to try one to believe it when they arrive but trust us when we say they are 'feather-light'. Below is a quick overview of what you can expect.
Berghaus Light Trek Hydroshell™ Jacket
Developed for regular outdoor enthusiasts, the Light Trek uses Hydroshell™ Elite technology for total rain protection and features an odour-resistant backer. Reflective flashes, a relaxed fit and pack-friendly reinforced zones make this the perfect on-the-hill trekking companion.
Berghaus Light Hike Hydroshell™ Jacket
Featured within Berghaus’ Everyday Outdoors category, the Light Hike uses the same 2.5 layer Hydroshell™ fabric as the Light Trek but is a less featured shell with an incredibly low weight and full storm protection.
