The UK's Best Mountain Biking Parks

Dales Park Info

Reflecting on a childhood of outdoor adventures, there was nothing more exhilarating than flying down a dirt track on your bike holding on for dear life. Like a windswept Evel Knievel powering round corners and across jumps, it might have been our first taste of freedom.

For those still in search of the thrill on the trails, the UK has a range of hidden gems for the master mountain bikers, beginners and family cyclists to enjoy. From cycle parks, trail centres and local tracks, to hillside routes, cycle paths and road paths, it’s a none stop landscape of must try trails. But which ones are a pedal above the rest?

Revolution Bike Park, Llangynog

Revolution Bike Park Info

Nestled in the heart of the Welsh countryside surrounded by welcoming country villages, sheep and Welsh Cakes, the Revolution Bike Park is the perfect mix of treelines and harsh shale stones.

A great choice for experts or biking enthusiasts who are ready to push their pace, the Revolution trails are some of the steepest in the country with technical descents ready to taste your breaks and your bottle. The park covers over 100 acres of woodland, over 300m of vertical descent and continues to add trail after trail.

As a group with a passion for mountain biking (maybe more passion than skill), our favourite root was the Poop Chute. This may have been because of its name but also because of the overly steep, high speed terrain and intricate route through the tree line. Probably not a great choice for the faint hearted.

Revolution Bike Park

Essential Kit List:

  • Raceface Charlie Shorts: Finished with a durable water repellence and seamless crotch gusset, the shorts are protective, lightweight and extremely comfortable (they also didn’t slip down even when powering through the treeline)
  • Fox Enduro Knee Sleeve: A much knee-ded support system for hucking any jump or shredding the loose ground at speed.

It is optionally fast paced dependent on the routes you take and the turns you pick which means from juniors to grandparents, there really is something for everyone.

And after a hard day of graft on the trails there's a pit stop café which means Yorkshire tea, scones and cakes are only a stones throw away! What more could you ask for?

Essential Kit List:

  • Fox Bomber Premium T-Shirt: A graphic t-shirt to show everyone on the trails that you mean business. It's lightweight and that's exactly what its easier to throw yourself down the trails in it. Skilled mountain biker not included.

Glentress Mountain Bike Trail Centre, Tweed Valley

Glentress Mountain Biking Info

Deep in the heart of the Tweed Valley, Glentress Mountain Bike Trails cater to every biker. From the beginners learning how to pick up speed on the trails, to the experts churning their way down single tracks, the trails are powered by the drastic descents of the Scottish borders hills.

The pine filled hills of Pebbles can test every budding rider with a huge range of larger jumps and road gaps alongside technical woodland sections, it’s a confidence builder for cyclists needing to pick up the speed.

We'd recommend the Glentress V Trail which was voted the best mountain biking trail in Britain and offers just over 30km of black grade trail. There is chance to climb up to The Mast and taken in the views from top spot before descending into the 'Britney Spears' valet and out onto the Boundary Trail which takes you across a quarry to really test your stamina.

Glentress Mountain Biking

Fort William, Scotland

Fort William Scotland

Yes, you guessed it, it's our second Scottish trail. Can you tell our resident mountain biker is a proud scot?

It's just under two weeks to go until the world's best riders will be heading up to Fort William for weekend of top class biking for the Mountain Bike World Cup. To say we're excited is an understatement!

Even if you're not a rider and you're just there to watch the day unfold, Fort William puts on quite a show for the UCI World Cup. The events across the weekend include Cross Country, X4 Cross and the headline gig, the Downhill race. It’s a tough event with the trails being on the side of Ben Nevis through Scottish woodland and onto dirt tracks providing unmissable descent and speed like never before.

We'll be cheering on all of the UK riders and their mates, and their mum's mates because once you get into the Fort William's mood there is no stopping you! It's a world wind of energy, high intensity mountain biking and good company from start to finish.
