Berghaus History

For over 40 years Berghaus has led the way in innovation in outdoor clothing and equipment...

The History of Berghaus

In 1966, frustrated with a lack of decent equipment, keen climbers Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison started to import and sell their own.

Their small store, based in Newcastle was called LD Mountain Centre and it soon became very popular with outdoor enthusiasts by selling the best performing gear available at the time.

Berghaus History The success inspired Lockey and Davison to start designing and making their own gear to sell in the shop, this is the business that became the global brand Berghaus.

For over 40 years Berghaus has led the way in innovation in outdoor clothing and equipment, helping people enjoy the outdoors and achieve their ambitions from the most elite athletes to everyday walkers.

Did you know: ‘Berghaus’ literally translates as ‘mountain centre’ and was named this way to sound more European to compete with the big brands of the 60’s.
